General Question
Q: Does my child need to attend evaluations?
Players need to attend at least one session. This helps coaches make informed decisions and gives players the best chance to be placed appropriately.
Q: What will an evaluation session look like?
Main evaluations happen during regular practices and games. Coaches will run sessions as usual while making notes on players’ technical ability, decision-making, attitude, and growth. There’s no pressure and no separate drills.
Participation & Registration
Q: What if I’m not sure yet if my child will play in the fall?
That’s totally fine. Register anyway if there's a chance they might play. This helps us with planning, and you won’t owe anything until later in June and only if/after accept your spot.
Q: I missed the regular season sessions. Can my child still play in the fall?
Yes! If your child missed the Regular Season evaluations, they can still participate. We run summer programming where they need to attend a session or two to be seen by coaches. [Summer Programs Here]
Team Formation
Q: Why do evaluations if there’s only one team in my child’s age group?
Evaluations aren’t just about placement — they also help us track growth and progress. If we end up with more interested players than we can fit on one roster, these notes help us create a second team fairly and effectively.
Q: When would ERU create a second team?
There’s no fixed number. If one team becomes too large, we may split into two teams to ensure all players have enough playing time and opportunities to grow.
Q: What if there aren’t enough players for multiple teams?
These are evaluations — not tryouts. There are no cuts. If we only have one team in an age group, that’s fine — the evaluation process still gives us valuable insights to support each player’s development.
Q: How are teams being made if there are multiple teams?
If an age group forms more than one team, they will be created based on developmental factors by the Directors of Coaching and coaching staff.
Q: Is ERU in charge of roster sizes?
Yes, within limits. Roster minimums and maximums are set by our governing body (CJSA), but we build teams with those parameters.
Other Team Info
Q: Who will be running the evaluations?
Current coaches, along with other ERU staff, will lead the process.
Q: When will teams be finalized?
We plan to send roster invitations in late June . You’ll have a chance to accept your child’s spot before making any financial commitment.
